Canine Chiropractic Treatment - Relief and Prevention

Dr Broadhurst recommends that all creatures with a spine (including their owners) be checked before any problems occur. All animals should undergo regular spinal evaluations within their first year, as this is the time when the animals frame and spine grow the most. Ideally the younger the animal the easier it is to correct. This is true prevention.

How does it work?

Chiropractic care is a non-invasive and cost effective way to maintain the performance, agility and overall health of your pet. Dr Broadhurst works to eliminate the source of the problem, which in turn will maximize your pets’ health naturally, without drugs or surgery, allowing your pet to reach their maximum level of health.

Canine chiropractic care works with the nervous system to help the brain better communicate with the body. This is done using chiropractic adjustments, which specifically help to keep joints properly aligned. Better communication within the body means better functioning of that body in all activities.

Chiropractic does not replace traditional forms of veterinary health care. It works really well with it! When a joint is affected it looses motion and then eventually proper position as well. The chiropractic adjustment restores motion and alignment and therefore function and performance.

Several factors determine the number and frequency of adjustments required to correct a problem:

  • The dogs age and physical condition are important.
Young healthy dogs will generally require fewer adjustments than older dogs or those with serious health problems.

  • The severity of the problem is another major factor if permanent damage has occurred, a return to full flexibility may not be possible and multiple adjustments may be necessary to achieve the most flexibility possible.

  • The length of time that the problem has been present is also a factor.
Longstanding or chronic problems frequently require more adjustments to correct than do acute problems.

It should be stressed that chiropractic, in no way, should be thought of as a replacement for conventional veterinary medicine, but rather as a valid, concurrent, complimentary treatment procedure for many back and lameness problems.  And as with any health related problems or conditions that your horse may experience, it is important that your veterinarian be contacted initially so that he or she can assess your horse for any underlying medical condition that could be causing similar symptoms.
